Government of India-backed Media and Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) ties up with Producer Bazaar to provide formal training to assistants in various trades of cinema
Media & Entertainment Skills Council, promoted by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) with financial support by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), has joined forces with Producer Bazaar, an organisation involved in streamlining various activities of entertainment industry, to offer a training to assistants in cinema field.
With the film industry largely being unorganised, workers like assistant directors, assistant camerapersons, and assistant editors are not able to get their due recognition and government benefits. For instance, when the COVID-19 pandemic crippled the world, this unsung force of cinema industry struggled a lot to receive assistance due to lack of enrollment in government records.
The short time certificate course will provide them a formal training in their respective field, besides enabling them to register their details with a recognised body like Media and Entertainment Skills Council. Thus, the training will empower them to be a certified professional and also make them eligible to benefit from various schemes.
Talking about the partnership, Vijay Dingari, Co-Founder and CBO of Fipchain Technology Pvt Ltd said, "Media & Entertainment Skills Council is conducting this training across India and we are so happy to partner with them in the south. The training will soon start for workers in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada film industries. We are sure this course will immensely benefit assistants of various trades of entertainment field."
Welcoming the initiative, Veera Sanker, President, Telugu Film Directors' Association, said, "With the Government of India-backed Media and Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) tieing up with Producer Bazaar, the Central government will have your (cinema assistants) data, and you will be recognized as a certified member. This recognition will make it easier for you to receive benefits from any future schemes they introduce. I believe this will be highly beneficial. So, I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. They will certify you, and there is an entry fee for the program, but it is a valuable investment in your career."
The key objective of MESC is to create a robust and vibrant eco-system for quality vocational education and skill development in Media & Entertainment Space in the country. In addition, the Media & Entertainment Sector Skill Council aims to serve as a single source of information on M & E sector with specific reference to Skill and Human Resource Development in India. The Council is also implementing Standards, Training, and Accreditation & Reward (PMKVY) scheme of Government of India. Under the PMKVY Scheme, MESC has introduced the training programme in affiliated institutes as well.
